Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor are the creators of the wildly popular podcast Welcome to Night Vale which gives a twisted and hilarious insight into a fictional desert town where an array of weird and often supernatural things occur. Their newest novel, It Devours, gives readers a scientist grappling with The Joyous Congregation of the Smiling God and Darryl, one of its most committed members. These two vastly different people may be the only ones who can save Night Vale but can they come together in time before it’s to late?! Mysterious Galaxy is incredibly happy to welcome Joseph and Jeffrey back to the store and we have our purple glow cloud turned on and ready for another amazing event. The creators will appear in conversation with Nina Garin of KPBS's Art Calendar.

The newest novel from the world of Night Vale is a delicious study of the intersection between science and religion. It's a book about belief, relationships, interlopers, a mysterious desert otherworld, and a Smiling God. It follows a scientist, Nilanjana Sikdar, who is on a mission to discover the origin of mysterious sinkholes appearing around her town. Are they the result of a government conspiracy? Divine retribution from the Joyous Congregation of the Smiling God? Do they have something to do with the House that Doesn't Exist? Can Nilanjana figure it out before all of Night Vale is consumed? Whether you're a fan of the podcast or not, this book is a treat! I couldn't put it down!
Joyfully, it devours! – Gary
Welcome to Night Vale . . . a friendly desert community somewhere in the American Southwest. In this ordinary little town where ghosts, angels, aliens, and government conspiracies are commonplace parts of everyday life, the lives of two women, with two mysteries, are about to converge.
Pawnshop proprietor Jackie Fierro abides by routine. But a crack appears in the standard order of her perpetually nineteen-year-old life when a mysterious man in a tan jacket gives her a slip of paper marked by two pencil-smudged words: KING CITY. Everything about the man unsettles her, especially the paper that she cannot remove from her hand. Yet when Jackie puts her life on hold to search for the man, no one who meets him can seem to remember anything about him.
Diane Crayton's fifteen-year-old son, Josh, is moody and a shape-shifter. Lately, Diane has started to see the boy's father everywhere she goes, looking the same as he did the day he left when they were teenagers. Josh is growing ever more curious about his estranged father--leading to a disaster Diane can see coming but is helpless to prevent.
Diane's search to reconnect with her son and Jackie's search to reclaim her routine life draw them increasingly closer to each other, and to this place that may hold the key to their mysteries and their futures . . . if they can ever find it.
