This is your favorite event of the summer! Smart Summer Reads ... or speed dating with the authors ... is fast, fun, and guaranteed to supply you with some great reading this summer.
Here's how it works:
- Six authors will join us on July 25 at 3:00pm. We will mix and chat from 3:00pm to 3:15pm and then the fun begins!
- There will be six stations set up around and in the main conference room at the Redondo Beach Main Library. One for each author.
- You will move from station to station in 10 minute intervals giving each author approximately 7 minutes to tell you about their latest book and answer questions.
- There will be refreshments and great people to meet
- Cost to you:Nothing! This event is free and open to the public
These are our fabulous authors:
Greta Boris combines her years of experience in the health field and her expertise as a writer for a very fun read. The Wine and Chocolate Workout is chock-full of great advice, interesting tidbits and, of course, wine and chocolate. Greta is a freelance writer living in Orange County.
Kelli Estes is passionate about stories that help us see how the past shaped who we are today, and how we all have more in common than not. Her fiction debut, The Girl Who Wrote in Silk, explores both of these themes. She lives in the Pacific Northwest with her family.
Hilary Liftin has ghostwritten and co-written numerous New York Times bestselling memoirs, and is the coauthor of Candy & Me and Dear Exile. In this celebrity-filled chronicle of “actress Lizzie Pepper,” Liftin explores Pepper’s failed marriage and the underside of fame. She lives in Los Angeles.
Janis Cooke Newman is the author of The Russian Word for Snow: A True Story of Adoption and is a frequent contributor to "Salon.com" and other magazines. Her latest novel, A Master Plan for Rescue, is a magical novel about the surprising acts we are capable of in the name of love. She lives in northern California with her husband and their son.
J. Ryan Stradal lives in Los Angeles where he has worked as a TV producer, notably for the History Channel’s Ice Road Truckers and the Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch. His debut novel will be published on Tuesday, July 27, but you can read one of the most anticipated novels of the summer, Kitchens of the Great Midwest, early, and meet Ryan at the same time … at Smart Summer Reads.
Dr. Jessica Vogelsang is a veterinarian, mother, and big-time dog person. She worked in emergency and small animal medicine before settling into her current practice in San Diego providing in-home hospice care for dogs and cats. All Dogs Go to Kevin is her debut and a humorous and touching memoir that will appeal to anyone who has ever loved an animal or lost hours in James Herriot's classic veterinary stories.
