On Saturday, May 8, 1993, a new store opened in Clairemont Square, dedicated to the staff’s passion for books of “Martians, Murder, Magic and Mayhem.” Today, 19 years later, that passion continues. We invite you to join us on Saturday, May 5, for our annual all-day celebration, featuring some fantastic spotlight authors, special bargains, and, of course, cake!
Random House Representative Wade Lucas will offer a highlight of wonderful new and forthcoming titles you won’t want to miss. As always, watch for bonus authors joining the festivities on an informal basis throughout the day.

Spotlight on Jeffrey J. Mariotte, Wes Albers, and Allison Brennan Signing The Devil’s Bait, Black & White, and Silenced Noon
It’s a triple-threat of suspense with our three featured authors at high noon. Mysterious Galaxy’s own Jeff Mariotte helps transition us from young adult fiction with Dark Vengeance, Volume 2, to his newest Jeffrey J. Mariotte thriller, The Devil’s Bait, a deadly tale of high stakes finance.
Debut author Wes Albers discusses how his two decades as a police officer influenced his fictional stories of SDPD Officer John Hatch and a world in which crimes occur not just in Black & White, but also in myriad shades of gray.
Best-selling suspense author Allison Brennan’s Silenced is the fifth in her series about Lucy Kincaid, introduced to readers in Love Me to Death, as she continues to battle cyber-sex crimes and investigates who killed a high-priced call girl linked to a powerful Congressman.

Spotlight on Suzanne Johnson Signingand Royal Street 1:00 PM
If Maryelizabeth’s review of Royal Street

Spotlight on Lisa Brackmann and Dana Fredsti Signing Getaway and Plague Town 2:00 PM
Widow Michelle Mason came to Puerto Vallarta to postpone dealing with life in Los Angeles. After an impulsive encounter with a charming expat pilot and friends leads to unexpected violence and her being detained by the Mexican authorities, she can only hope she will be able to leave Mexico at all. Lisa Brackmann discusses the inspiration behind Getaway’s tale of a vacation gone very very bad. You can also read Maryelizabeth’s reviews of both of their books here.
Like her sister, Lisa, Dana has penned a tale of a strong woman in difficult circumstances – in this case, an outbreak of a zombie virus in the community around a college campus in northern California. Dana’s background as an actress and sword-fighting expert in the Army of Darkness movie informs both the battle scenes between the undead and the living, and the pop-culture literacy of her characters in Plague Town.
