An In-Store & Virtual Hybrid Event

This is an IN-STORE EVENT with author Tracy Badua and conversation partner Kat De Los Reyes that will also be broadcasted live through Crowdcast for those unable to attend in person. This event will consist of a 30 minute discussion with Tracy and Kat, an audience Q&A, and finally the the book signing.

1. Add the desired book(s) to your cart.
2. At checkout in the "order comments" box write "signed only" or to whom your book(s) should be personalized (i.e. "To: Ms. Galaxy"). Requests for anything beyond a name, like a note or quote, are up to the author's discretion and are not guaranteed. Orders must be placed by 12pm pt on the day of the event (January 19th). Please call the store if you wish to purchase a book, or add/alter personalization to an existing order, after this time.

TRACY BADUA is a Filipino American author of books about young people with sunny hearts in a sometimes stormy world. By day, she is an attorney who works in national housing policy and programs, and by night, she squeezes in writing, family time, and bites of her secret candy stash. She lives in San Diego, California, with her family.

About the Conversation Partner
KAT DE LOS REYES has been a bookstagrammer since 2020 and a reader since she was 3 years old. On Instagram, she is the host of the annual #APIBookstagramTour, helped organize the #StandUpForAAPI campaign in 2021, and her account @booknerdkat been featured in @buzzfeedbooks. Kat is an avid book reviewer, supporter of the public library and independent bookstores, and enjoys promoting books --especially works from BIPOC authors. A first-generation Filipino immigrant, she is active in the AAPI community and has a career in public service. 

About THIS IS NOT A PERSONAL STATEMENT
At sixteen, Perla is the youngest graduating senior of the hypercompetitive Monte Verde High. Praised—and not-so-quietly bashed—as “Perfect Perlie Perez,” Perla knows all the late nights, social isolation, and crushing stress will be worth it when she gets into the college of her (and her parents’) dreams: Delmont University. 

Then Perla doesn’t get in, and her meticulously planned future shatters. In a panic, she forges her own acceptance letter, and next thing she knows, she’s heading to Delmont for real, acceptance or not. Soon, Perla is breaking into dorm rooms, crashing classes, and dodging questions from new friends about her lack of a student ID. Her plan? Gather on-the-ground intel to beef up her application and reapply spring semester before she’s caught.  

But as her guilty conscience grows and campus security looms large, Perla starts to wonder if her plan will really succeed—and if this dream she’s worked for her entire life is something she even wants.
