Local author and friend of the store, Greg van Eekhout, has written books, short stories, and comics for both young and adult audiences. His work has appeared in most of the genre’s major science-fiction magazines, several anthologies, and several of Year’s Best compilations, and his short story In the Late December was a finalist for a Nebula Best Short Story award. Greg’s latest middle grade book, COG, is a story of five small robots against the corporation that controls everything. Cog may look like a twelve-year-old boy, but he’s actually an advanced robot created and cared for by female scientist, Gina. One day, he wakes up in a strange lab, surrounded by unfamiliar people who want to take him apart and see how he works; Gina is nowhere to be found. Recruiting the help of four other small robots, Cog and team seek to rescue Gina from the clutches of a greedy corporation.
