When he was supposed to be working towards a PhD in Scottish Literature, author Ian Rankin instead spent those three years writing novels. He had worked a myriad of jobs, such as grape-picker, journalist, and swineherd before finding success with his Rebus series of novels. His latest Rebus novel is the much anticipated In a House of Lies. The remains of a private investigator are found in an area that had been already searched when the man had first disappeared a decade before, forcing Rebus to once again come out of retirement. But even with Rebus’ old friend, Siobhan Clarke, being assigned to the case, neither she nor Rebus could predict what the reopening of the case would uncover. As Ian Rankin’s website says, “there is one man who knows where the trail may lead – and that it could be the end of him: John Rebus.”
Local author and international traveler Lisa Brackmann (Black Swan Rising) will guest host, talking with Ian about the evolutions of both Rebus and Edinburgh.
