Naomi Hirahara’s first mystery novel in the Mas Arai series, Summer of the Big Bachi, was nominated for a Macavity Mystery Award and a finalist for the Barbara Kingsolver’s Bellwether Prize. She has since written six other books in the series, and received the Edgar Allan Poe award for Best Paperback Original and an Honorable Mention award in Youth Literature from the Asian/Pacific American Librarians Association. Her newest novel, Iced in Paradise, is the first in her Leilani Santiago Mystery Series. Leilani has returned home to the Hawaiian island of Kaua’i to look after her ailing mother and the family shaved ice shack business. One morning, she discovers the deceased body of a pro surfer, and her estranged father is the prime suspect. Now Leilani must find the real killer, as well as keep her own life together.
