Ann and Jeff VanderMeer have led interesting and successful literary careers. Ann has won numerous awards for her editing work, including a World Fantasy Award and a Hugo Award. Her time as editor-in-chief for Weird Tales and her current position as acquiring editor for Tor.com has built her a reputation for acquiring fiction from diverse and interesting new talents. Jeff has been a published writer since age 14, and has been called “the weird Thoreau” by the New Yorker. In 2014, his New York Times bestselling Southern Reach trilogy garnered widespread critical acclaim, the first novel of which, Annihilation, was made into a film by Paramount Pictures. His recent novel Borne has been selected for the NEA Big Reads program and was a finalist for the Arthur C. Clarke Award. The married duo periodically collaborate with each other, and in their latest work, The Big Book of Classic Fantasy, shines a light on many favorite and well-known tales, delving into their vast depths and discussing their origins.
