Rhys Bowen with Charlaine Harris Presented by Sisters in Crime SD

Rhys Bowen & Charlaine Harris

Award- winning author Rhys Bowen has received acclaim and recognition for her historical content and suspenseful storytelling for her short stories and her novels. Rhys is the creator of the Evan Evans, Molly Murphy, and Royal Spyness series, as well as her World War II novels. Her Royal Spyness, Lady Victoria Georgiana Charlotte Eugenie, thirty-somthingth in line for the throne, is not only dealing with preparations for her July 1935 wedding to Darcy O’Mara, but also a murder mystery in which the butler definitively did not do it, as he was the victim,  in this summer’s Four Funerals and Maybe a Wedding.

Charlaine Harris is the New York Times bestselling author of the well-known Sookie Stackhouse and Midnight Texas series, both which have also enjoyed lives as fan-favorite television programs. An Easy Death, the first novel in her new Gunnie Rose series, is set in an alternate history where the United States became fractured during the assassination of Franklin Roosevelt and the Great Depression. Here, magic exists, but it is untrustworthy. When young-gunslinger Lizbeth Rose is hired to be a local guide to two Russian wizards looking for the descendant of Grigori Rasputin, she must traverse treacherous countries such as Texoma while avoiding a mysterious force that doesn’t want the trio to succeed.

Rhys and Charlainewill be the spotlight speakers at the Sisters in Crime meeting, discussing process, setting, and historical accuracy ... or not. Refreshments will be available; an afternoon tea with Southern sweet tea will be served in their honor.

In the days leading up to her wedding to Darcy O'Mara, Lady Georgiana Rannoch takes on the responsibilities of a grand estate, but proving she can run a household just may be the death of her in the new Royal Spyness Mystery from the New York Times bestselling author of On Her Majesty's Frightfully Secret Service.

If only Darcy and I had eloped! What I thought would be a simple wedding has been transformed into a grand affair, thanks to the attendance of the queen, who has offered up the princesses as bridesmaids. Silly me! I thought that withdrawing from the royal line of succession would simplify my life. But before Darcy and I tie the knot in front of queen and country, we have to find a place to live as man and wife...

House hunting turns out to be a pretty grim affair. Just as we start to lose hope, my globetrotting godfather offers us his fully staffed country estate. Mistress of Eynsleigh I shall be! With Darcy off in parts unknown, I head to Eynsleigh alone, only to have my hopes dashed. The grounds are in disarray and the small staff is suspiciously incompetent. Not to mention the gas tap leak in my bedroom, which I can only imagine was an attempt on my life. Something rotten is afoot--and bringing the place up to snuff may put me six feet under before I even get a chance to walk down the aisle...

An Easy Death by Charlaine Harris

An alternate early 20th Century American history has the country broken into several territories. The Russian Royal Family through advantageous marriages arranged by Tsar Nicholas II now rules what was formerly California and Oregon. The area is now the Holy Russian Empire.
Lizbeth (Gunnie) Rose has been hired to guide and guard two grigoris (magicians), Eli & Paulina in their search for Oleg Karkarov, a wizard. While Lizbeth agrees to undertake the job, she soon realizes that she has a secret that must remain hidden from the grigoris. The story is fast paced, fraught with multiple dangers, betrayals, and intrigue. While magic is part of the story, it is not the driving force behind it. That is all Lizbeth, who is strong, smart, resourceful, and a remarkable shot with an 1873 Winchester or a Colt 1911. Here’s hoping there will be much more in the tale of Gunnie Rose to come.  - Christine
