Author David Bajo is a San Diego native and the tenth of fifteen children. “David has worked as a writer his entire adult life,” his website’s bio states. His fourth novel, The Ensenada Public Library, follows two narratives that are intricately linked. The first introduces four librarians who burn thousands of books per week to, oddly enough, protect the integrity of literature. The second stems from a book that mysteriously escapes the burn chute every time. In this story within a story’s world, reading has entirely collapsed. A lone Mexican archivist named Equisa finds perhaps the last piece of ink on paper left in the world. In her own way of rediscovering and preserving literature, she makes it her mission is to smuggle the piece back to her lab where she believes she can reconstruct the entire novel. David’s other novels include The 351 Books of Irma Arcuri, Panopticon, and Mercy 6.
