Master of the crime novel, Gary Phillips knows his stuff. Treacherous is  his new short story collection featuring random “grifters, ruffians and killers.”  Born and raised in South Central L.A., Phillips uses his hometown as a backdrop for his fleshed out characters and hard boiled plotlines. Phillips has worked as a union rep, a community organizer and headed a non-profit organization to better race relations after the 1992 riots. Gary will also update fans on Monkology, his collection of thirteen stories centered around Los Angeles PI Ivan Monk.  With K. Bennett.

Treacherous: Grifters, Ruffians and Killers collects 20 short stories of badness and nefarious goings on by mystery writer Gary Phillips.  For instance in "House of Tears" (from Black Noir) an aging thief lines up one last big score to rip off a bed-ridden music legend ensconced in his castle; in "Roger Crumbler Considered his Shave" (from L.A. Noir), a mild-mannered CPA on the morning of his birthday contemplates more than the temptation of a second slice of cake; and in “Beginner’s Luck” (from Shades of Black) ex-showgirl and current cold cash courier Martha Chainey wakes up on a bus bench with a terrible headache.
