It is the time of the annual Sun Dance on the Wind River Reservation, the ancient sacred ceremony that unites Arapahos in prayer and peaceful renewal. However, in The Spider’s Web, that peace is soon shattered, when an outsider intrudes, claiming to be engaged to a young Arapaho man with a girlfriend, who claims no knowledge of the supposed fiancée. When the young man is murdered and the young woman is assaulted at the scene, suspicion turns on her.
